Listening to some Charles Ives's symphonies this Fourth of July week. Arguably one of the most original, inventive, and experimental American composers to have walked the earth.

Handel's Partenope.

First time at the SF Opera (after having resided in the Bay Area for more than 20+ years). Wonderful SF opera debuts by Julie Fuchs and countertenors Carlo Vistoli and Nicholas Tamagna.

Not necessarily the best singing and playing (modern instruments and phrasing unavoidable unfortunate letdown, among all things), but most definitely the most entertaining and humorous performance of a Handel opera to date.
